Inauguration of Photo Exhibit, "Return and Belonging"

A collaboration between El Centro Rizoma del Migrante, Distrito350.mx and artist and curator, Jorge Ramirez. Our photo exhibit "Return and Belonging" is a visual journey of the experiences and self-reflections of Mexican migrants searching for their place in the world. The exhibit includes specially-curated photographs from The Rhizome Center for Migrants' 2023 Photo Contest and features the works of eight talented artists. The exhibit will be open to the public until the end of October at Distrito 350's gallery near Chapultepec.

The Rhizome Center for Migrants will be joining a panel on cross border legal needs, along with Ariel Diaz (formerly with Caminamos Juntos), Karon Rowden (TAMU Family Law & Veterans Advocacy Clinic), and Maggie Loredo (Otros Dreams en Acción), at Texas A&M University's Mexican Reintegration Conference in Mexico City. The 3-day conference builds upon TAMU's research focusing on the reintegration experiences of Mexican nationals who return to Mexico, either voluntarily or after deportation, after living in the United States, with the hopes of creating a pilot project blueprint that can further meet the vast legal needs of the returned and deported communities currently residing in Mexico. This Day of the Child (Día del Niño), The Rhizome Center and the U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce are celebrating by hosting a writing contest for U.S. citizen minors of Mexican migrants in Mexico. This year's 2022 Writing Contest asks these children to reflect on what U.S. citizenship means to them and how they are experiencing being a U.S. citizen outside of their home country. All entrants will be invited to a U.S. college application preparation workshop hosted by the Rhizome Center later this summer.
