We will host our 14th immigration law and policy program this August 7-12, 2026, in Guadalajara, Mexico. Since 2019, 80+ participants have joined us to learn directly from impacted individuals, community and religious leaders, attorneys, and other front line actors in #centralmexico. We're grateful to the @hispanicbarassociationofaustin for making our program accessible for scholarship recipient Brenda Diaz, a rising 3L at @utexaslaw. Recognizing how contentious immigration has become in the U.S., she hopes to learn how other countries like Mexico experience and understand immigration. We're excited to welcome Brenda and this year's cohort as we continue educating U.S.-based advocates on the long-term c#Deportationof #deportation, an#holisticd#migrantcareic #migrantcare that spans borders.➡️ Interested in joining our January cohort? The Rhizome Center for Migrants

The Trump administration has deported 18,000+ Cubans, Haitians, Venezuelans, and Nicaraguans to 🇲🇽. Among the Cubans arriving, many are older people—already retired after working lawfully in the U.S. for decades—with serious health conditions, disabilities, and no means of supporting themselves in Mexico. Abandoned by the U.S. after fleeing Communist #Cuba as early as the 1960s, or escaping political persecution and violence in #Haiti, #Nicaragua, and #Venezuela, they are now stranded in a country in which they have no ties, at the mercy of the Mexican asylum system with limited other options and no government support. In the face of displacement caused by #deportation, and mounting human rights abuses, nonprofit organizations like ours are left to fill in at a time when funding cuts have gutted the migrant-serving ecosystem in Mexico. Against these odds, The Rhizome Center for Migrants offers hope when all else is lost, providing legal screenings to those now stranded in Southern Mexico, remotely assisting with obtaining vital records and travel documents, referrals to pro bono Mexican immigration attorneys, and providing daily integration accompaniment and emergency assistance. ✨ This fund helps us to respond to the specific requests for emergency assistance that can mean ensuring someone has a roof over their head, food on the table, transportation assistance to get to and from government offices, and be able to stay in touch with attorneys, loved ones, and service providers. 👉 Every donation—whether $10, $25, $50, or more—helps restore stability, dignity, and hope to our former neighbors and community members who have lost everything. To give directly, we also accept donations via Zelle at connect@rhizomecenter.org. Please mark your donation "#CRISISFUND".
