June 3, 2020]\u00a0<\/strong>The Rhizome Center for Migrants and more than 100 organizations worldwide have joined with HelpAge International to call for the UN to ensure that, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we build back better and set the stage for a more inclusive and equitable society that considers older people\u2019s rights across the UN system.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The joint open letter sent to Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, is a direct response to the UN policy brief issued in May on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sites\/un2.un.org\/files\/un_policy_brief_on_covid-19_and_older_persons_1_may_2020.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sites\/un2.un.org\/files\/un_policy_brief_on_covid-19_and_older_persons_1_may_2020.pdf\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">impact of COVID-19 on older people<\/span><\/a>. The organizations welcomed the Secretary General\u2019s intervention but highlighted critical gaps that need to be addressed in the UN system in relation to older people.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UN has no system-wide policy or strategy on ageing and older persons, no lead UN agency, and no formal mechanism for collaboration between UN bodies.
